In the 90s, Disney came out with this movie based on a true story. It was about 4 Jamaicans who started the first Jamaican bobsled team because they wanted to go to the Olympics. The only other sport was track. Two of the teammembers were in the Olympic track trials, but didn’t pass. So they teamed up with 2 other guys and found John Candy to be their coach. It is a very funny movie. There is one guy, I forgot his name, but I really like him. He is the Jamaican soap box car racing champion. He is like the stereotypical Jamaican. Real thick accent, tye-dye shirts. He has some great lines. My favorite scene is when they first arrive in Canada. Now, if you know anything about weather and geography, you know that it’s always hot in Jamaica. None of these guys have ever left their homeland. So then they come here and they freeze their asses off. The one guy I was talking about, he puts on so many layers of clothing, including his duffel bag, and he is still cold. It’s wonderful. It’s also an inspiring movie. It tells you that you can do anything you want if you just pursue it and don’t give up. By the way, the movie is called Cool Runnings.
